Meetings:
28/12/2013 - Brainstorming
15/01/2014 - BFI Meeting
In today's meeting we decided that we are definitely going to pursue a slightly altered version of our second idea, and created a brainstorm of possible scenes, locations and characters. Our concept is that a young deaf girl notices how everybody fails to communicate and is absorbed with technology, whereas she is perceptive and picks up on things everyone else misses due to their ignorance. At the end of the short film, she meets a boy similar to her, and they form a connection. Possible ideas for the title of our film are 'Connected', 'Connection' or 'Plugged In'. We then pitched our idea to the group and after feedback, decided that the female protagonist should not be deaf, as this no longer adds anything to the storyline now that we have moved away from the silent film idea, and we would have had to be extra careful to not cause any offence in our portrayal of her character.
01/02/2014 - Google Hangout
Today we mainly discussed the storyline of our short film and came up with a few plot points/events that could happen in the short film:
- Girl starts in her home, eating breakfast, while her family mainly ignore her and are preoccupied with various devices (eg. mum on the phone, brother playing a video game)
- She leaves the house, fed up, and starts to walk down the street, where everybody else is texting, listening to music etc.
- Various situations, eg. finds money on the floor which everybody else hasn't noticed, throws a ball for a dog in the park
- Final scene - sits down on a bench where a boy is sketching, they make a connection and start to talk/write notes to each other

Script First Draft (by Ross and Elliott)
Alternative Script (by Pip)
We have decided to use the script drafted by Ross and Elliott as opposed to Pip's alternative interpretation, although we thought it had some very interesting ideas, as we do not have time to change our concept too drastically. We will be giving scenes from this script to our actors in the auditions tomorrow. We still need to make some changes on the script, as it does not have a very strong storyline.

Script Final Draft (by Rory)
17/02/2014 - Pre-Production Day
18/02/2014 - Shooting (Photos) - My Role As Cinematographer
19/02/2014 - Editing
We began editing the footage for our short film at The Rural Media Company. Today mainly consisted of looking back through the footage and choosing the shots that we liked best to put into our final film. We also started to gather images, animations and sound effects and to think about music, as a long of the storyline of the short film will be displayed using graphics. At the end of the day we had a rough assembly of shots, although the duration was much too long. Our editor, Ross, is going to complete the editing of the film ready for the screening at the Borderlines Film Festival at the beginning of March.
05/03/2014 - Borderlines Screening
Today our short film 'Disconnected' was screened at the Borderlines Film Festival, along with the other two short films made by other groups as part of the Borderlines Film Festival. This was very exciting opportunity and it was amazing to finally see our short film on the big screen. The screening included a question and answer session with editor Tony Lawson, director of photography Richard Greatrex and the director of the Borderlines Film Festival.
